Forget the fancies of the hour
Ancient wisdom has more power

The Sage stands for knowledge and wisdom. It represents prudence and caution, and warns us against excesses of passion and rashness, as celebrated by other cards such as the Libido, the Beauty and the Warrior.

The Sage may be a specific friend, colleague or expert whom we should consult on a situation. Or it may refer to ourselves, but adopting a deliberate and careful approach to a problem or situation. It tells us to detach ourselves from our problems, and view them from the outside, rather than from within. It reminds us to always draw on experience and trusted authorities.
